“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalms 1:1-2 (ESV)
The Psalmist is making it clear there are two types of people: the wicked and the righteous.
There’s no middle ground. No fence sitting. No hedging one’s bets.
And how is the righteous man distinguished from the wicked?
His “delight is in the law”. God’s good “law” (1 Timothy 1:8).
On the other hand, the wicked “scoff” at God’s “law”.
The repercussions are quite extreme.
The righteous will “yield fruit” and “prosper”. The wicked, on the other hand, will not get to enjoy the presence of the LORD but “will perish”.
These are weighty issues that have eternal consequences.
